Fire Danger!!!
I am sitting here typing this with a house in disarray. We had a big brush fire near us, within 3 miles, that we had to pack up and be prepared for a quick exit. They are now saying that we are no longer threatened, but I always worry about that. Over 10 years ago, the town/area that I live in was in a very big fire, and most houses were burned to the ground. We were not in this area at the time, in fact I was not even with my husband. But I was able to see the fire from where I was living at the time, and it did affect my husband's family. They lost their house in the fire and had to rebuild. This house we are currently in was not burned down, luckily, as it is one of the oldest houses in the area.
So, I took my son to the movies this morning. Seemed as if I was going to have a much better day, and things were going to be good. All went well, we went to the movies and even went to a shop or two in the mall. On our way home, I saw the smoke and thought, that looks close to home, but it also looks like they had it under control. We stopped to get a few little things from the grocery store, and headed back on the highway to go home. The closer that we got, the more concerned that I became. We (meaning my son) started to research and find out where the fire was located. I then started calling my husband, who's jobsite was about 30 minutes away from us, and told him I thought it was time to come home and get things together.
We got home, grabbed the important things, packed some bags, started getting livestock items together, and we watching the fire closely. We received word that there was no more imminent danger. In just a few hours, between 3-4, over 400 acres were burned. I am sure that we will be on edge the rest of the night, but I think that we will be okay.
We still have everything together, just in case. It is not uncommon here, there have been several big fires go through San Diego in the past 10 or so years. So, I think that as I unpack and clean tomorrow, we will continue to have a go box of the important items that need to be grabbed in an emergency. It just helps in last minute thinking to have it ready to go. I had one before when the fires were all still new to San Diego, but I have gotten lackadaisical in keeping up on that. Lesson learned today, and I will get it all together.
All in all, today was a decent day. I feel much better than I did yesterday. That is positive, and I need to reach for more positive items when I am feeling down. So, last nights dinner was really yummy, and now it is time to figure out what to make for dinner tonight. I am hoping that life will be back to some-what normal for us tomorrow, and I can post more interesting things. Like pictures of the ranch, the animals, the garden, etc etc etc. This is my crazy life, rarely do things go as planned!
Have a great night, and see you tomorrow!
